Southern League Preview: Mangotsfield United vs Thatcham Town
The Kingfishers travel to Mangotsfield United this weekend with hopes of closing the gap on league-leaders Frome (3:00PM)
Danny Robinson’s squad brought their turbulent run of form to an end when thrashing Basingstoke Town 8-0 at the Stacatruc Stadium last week. The Blues had gone five games without a win and saw two games postponed before the victory.
The resounding win over Basingstoke helped the Kingfishers narrow Frome’s grip on the division’s summit to two points, with Robinson’s men also holding a crucial game in hand over their league rivals.
Mangotsfield have endured a torrid spell in recent weeks after losing their last six games in the league, conceding sixteen goals in the process.
United sit 17th in the division standings and four points clear of Moneyfields in the position below but the latter hold five games in hand over Mangotsfield.
Thatcham’s new signings, James Ollis and John Mills, produced fine performances in the win over Basingstoke with both players finding the scoresheet. Mills bagged his first goal within 17 seconds of play and will be hoping to add to his tally in Saturday’s trip.
Kyle Tooze, who has found the net on 15 occasions in the league this term, serves his second game suspended.
The reverse fixture resulted in a comfortable 2-0 victory for the Blues after Captain Matt Day and forward Felipe Barcelos found the net to walk away with all three points.
