Southern League Preview: Larkhall Athletic vs Thatcham Town
The Kingfishers travel to high-flying Larkhall Athletic this weekend with hopes of returning to winning ways (3:00PM)
Danny Robinson’s squad will attempt to regain their position as league leaders after his side’s 3-0 midweek loss to Frome saw the Blues slip to second in the division.
Defeat marked Town’s fourth game without a win in the Southern League after a formidable start to the 2019/20 campaign.
But a second consecutive away match for the Blues may see an upturn in fortunes as Larkhall have also dipped in form in their recent two games against Cinderford and Willand Rovers.
But Thatcham will be prepared for a tightly-contested match with their upcoming opponents sat nine points behind in third.
Larkhall will see the fixture as an opportunity to close the gap after missing chances in their last two games but the blues know that three points in this weekend’s game could prove decisive in the title race.
The reverse fixture resulted in a comfortable 2-0 home win for Thatcham, with Kyle Tooze bagging a brace to secure the three points.
Top scorer Tooze will miss the fixture due to suspension but Robinson’s attacking options have been bolstered by the introduction of midfielder James Ollis - who joined the club on Friday.
A vital win could propel the Kingfishers back to the top of the division as the Blues still hold a game in hand over Frome, with the Robins facing a testing away trip to Slimbridge this weekend.
