The forward, on his second debut for the club, fired home from the spot three times in the second half after the Church had scored a penalty themselves in the first half.

Nasim Meddah lobbed just wide for the visitors in the opening stages, and Town responded with efforts from Tooze and Mo Ceesay which were saved.

Town shaded the first half with Tooze, Sam Tanner and Tinashe Gwavava and Jenson Mansel having shots saved by keeper Ben Rodwell, however Christchurch took the lead on 38 minutes.

Meddah stretched the Town defence and found Addwell Chipangura who was tripped by Ceesay. After taking a remarkably long time to place the ball on the spot, Chipangura duly fired past Reading loanee keeper James Sharlott.

Owen Clark replaced Mansel at the break and it wasn’t long before Town were level. Shemar Moore outmuscled his marker and was brought down on the edge of the box. Following discussions between the referee and an assistant, a penalty was awarded which Tooze slotted home low to the keeper’s left.

The pressure started to build as Tanner’s shot blocked by defender Callum Hockton, but from the resulting corner Kyle Daniel-Spray was tripped for the Kingfishers’ second penalty which Tooze converted.

Christchurch created a good opening when Meddah centred but Chipangura volleyed just over, while Oli Bourne made a great block to deny Luke Sheehy. And Town punished them when Tooze set Dontae Hamblin free down the left and the young substitute was tripped in the area. Tooze emphatically fired home the penalty for his and Thatcham’s third.

In the closing stages Sharlott made a flying save to keep out an effort from Oliver Davis.

So Thatcham finally gain a FA Cup after four successive exits at the first hurdle, and will face Andover New Street at home in the next round.

In spite of missing a couple of senior players such as captain Callum Willmoth and Andrew Matthews, Thatcham showed character to come back with youngsters Kartel Forde and Callum Winchcombe pulling the strings in their absence.
