A former professional with Oxford United, Day became something of a legend at Hungerford. He played for the Crusaders for 8 years and captained the team as they progressed up the leagues and established themselves in the Conference South. Upon leaving Bulpit Lane during the 2017/18 season he had short spells with Wealdstone and Slough Town, while last season he was part of the Bracknell Town side which reached the Isthmian League D1 play-off final.
Matt is a no-nonsense centre-half who is terrific in the air and likes to play the ball out from the back. He will bring bags of experience and great leadership qualities with him to Waterside Park.
Upon signing for the Kingfishers, Day said “I know quite a few of the players, particularly Paul Strudley, Scott Rees and Gareth Thomas. The squad looks really promising and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be targeting promotion this season. When I have won promotion in recent seasons it has been through the play-offs, so it would be great to go one better this time."
